Abel + Johnny

lgbtq session in golden gate park

LGBTQ Friendly Photographer

As a photographer, I am incredibly serious about celebrating all love stories. I am proud to have worked with the LGBTQ community, photographing gay, lesbian, nonbinary, and transgender individuals and couples. It is so imperative to me to embrace such romantic connections freely and openly, especially in a world and industry that prioritizes heteronormativity. You might even notice that I do not call traditional “couple sessions” as such, but rather use the all-encompassing “love story.” This is intentional to include polyamorous relationships. Not all love stories include only two people!

My dear friends Abel and Johnny are a queer couple from Portland, Oregon. While they were visiting San Francisco, they wanted to hold a session to update their couple photos! (You can check out their previous session here,  when I visited them in Portland).  Abel and Johnny are both readers and carry books wherever they go. They really wanted to spend a morning just reading in Golden Gate Park. Naturally, we had to include reading during their session.

Our session took place at the San Francisco Botanical Garden and Conservatory of Flowers. (Pro Tip: If you enter the Botanical Garden before 9:00 AM, then your admission is free!) We laid down a blanket for Johnny and Abel to relax and read their books. Once the Conservatory of Flowers opened at 10:00 AM, we walked through the park and entered the very peaceful greenhouse.  As a fun little activity, they doodled in a notebook, switching sides every 60 seconds. It was a fun little exercise to draw whatever they wanted and write some cute notes to each other!

I’m so thankful to these two for trusting me to capture their love for one another honestly and authentically. I love these photos because I feel they capture the true essence of who they are as people. I’m proud not just to share these images, but to add to the anthology for LGBTQ love that deserves to be amplified!
