Chrystal + Shanay

engagement at los angeles arboretum

About their Engagement:

Chrystal and Shanay are a sweet couple celebrating their engagement. Prevfiously living in Seattle and recently moving to Los Angeles, their relationship is truly a testament to, “love knows no boundaries.”

They first met in 2018 through common interests while amidst their respective internships. They are no strangers to long-distance as their internships had brought each of them cross-country in the early years of their friendship. They had their first date in 2019, and initially decided to remain friends due to the distance. However, love certainly grows and they decided to try out long distance. In 2020, their distance ended when Shanay joined Chrystal in Seattle and they’ve been together ever since!

Shanay proposed to Chrystal in 2023 on a trip to Europe. In an attempt to surprise Christal, Shanay booked two photoshoots! When the proposal did not happen during the first session, she just knew it would happen on the second. Their evening was complete with a musician and Michelin star dinner.

To celebrate their engagement and start to a new chapter in Los Angeles, Chrystal and Shanay chose to hold their session at their home and at the Los Angeles County Arboretum an Botanical Gardens. They have three adorable cats, Kiwi, Gooby, and Bert, who they wanted to include in their session. We started at their apartment before trekking to the Arboretum.

In true Southern California fashion, the weather kept changing! A sudden rainstorm had come through the region, and there were heavy rains en route to the Arboretum. For a moment, we thought that we might have to reschedule. However, brighter skies in the distance proved hopeful as the rain had stopped once we reached the Arboretum. For a late March session, the Arboretum was full of California poppies, magnolias, and cherry blossoms. They wanted their session to appear as if they were in a field full of flowers, and the photos turned out so beautifully!

After our session, we celebrated with tacos at Villa’s Tacos at the historic Grand Central Market! If you’re looking for the perfect post-session dinner spot, tacos are the way to go!
